Quick takeaways
- Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton is a big, Hollywood-themed all-inclusive resort on the beach in Playa Mujeres, just north of Cancun and about 40 to 45 minutes from the airport.
- There’s a family side and an adults-only side (the Adult Scene), so it works for almost every type of traveller.
- Many of the junior suites sleep four adults, which is hard to find in Mexico and the Caribbean!
- Star Class is the upgraded level, and it’s worth every penny.
Barbara and I did a site inspection of Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton in April 2025, and honestly, we were impressed from start to finish! From the rooms, to the sheer size of the resort, to all of the amenities, there was always something around the next corner that made us say “wow.” Barbara loved it so much that she went back for a full week with her husband!
Our site inspection
We spent the day touring every corner of the resort: the rooms and suites, the pools, the kids’ areas, the restaurants, the theatre and, of course, the beach. We were continuously impressed the entire time. This resort is BIG, and it’s packed with things to do, but it still feels polished and well put together.

One thing we always point out to our clients: this is a resort where four adults can share one room, no matter their ages. Many hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean don’t allow four people over the age of 12 in one room, so this is a huge plus for families with older kids and for friends travelling together.
We can’t wait to send you here!
The Hollywood vibe
Planet Hollywood Cancun is all about movie magic. There’s Hollywood memorabilia around the resort, purple and silver star details everywhere, a cinema, and an outdoor stage for shows and nightly entertainment. It’s fun without being over the top, and it gives the whole resort a lively, celebratory feel.

Rooms (four adults welcome!)
The rooms were one of the things that impressed us most. They’re modern and spacious, with fun Hollywood touches like lit-up dressing room style vanity mirrors. The suites we toured had separate living areas, and some even had a freestanding soaker tub.
Best of all, the Junior Suites (including the Ocean View, Swim-Out and Star Class Junior Suites) can sleep up to four adults. That’s perfect for families with teens or adult kids, and for friends who want to share a room and save a little!

Star Class: worth the upgrade
Star Class is the resort’s upgraded level, and it comes with some great perks: a private lounge with check-in and check-out, a personal agent, priority dinner reservations, your own Star Class pool, bars and beach area, a Star Class grill and breakfast restaurant, an upgraded minibar and room service, and a discount at the spa.
Barbara’s tip“Enjoy all the incredible benefits of this resort by upgrading your room to the Star Class – you won’t regret it!”
Pools and the beach
There are multiple pools spread across the resort, including a lazy river, pools with pink-canopied Bali beds, and long pools that stretch out toward the ocean. Then follow the boardwalk down to the beach, with soft white sand, palapas and that beautiful turquoise water. Grab a drink and settle in!

For families and kids
If you’re travelling with kids, this resort is a dream. There’s a pirate ship splash area, water slides, a kids’ club and a teens’ club, an indoor play area called Planet Play, an arcade, and even a colourful Splatter room. For the bigger kids (and adults!), there’s a FlowRider surf simulator too (extra charge).

Food and drinks
There’s lots of choice when it comes to dining! The resort has around a dozen restaurants, including a buffet, East (sushi and teppanyaki), a steakhouse, Italian, Indian, Mexican, a beach club and Guy Fieri’s burger joint. Adult Scene guests also get their own Brazilian steakhouse and seafood restaurant. Add in the bars, a sports bar and a coffee shop, and you’ll never go hungry or thirsty.

At night, the outdoor stage comes alive with shows and entertainment, so there’s always something to do after dinner.

The Adult Scene
Want a kid-free getaway? Planet Hollywood Cancun also has the Adult Scene, an adults-only (18+) section that feels like a resort within the resort, with its own pools, beach area, restaurants and check-in. Adult Scene guests can still use everything on the family side too. It’s a great option for couples, girls’ trips and groups of friends.
Amy’s tipTravelling with the whole family? This is a great resort for a multi-generational trip. The family can stay on the main side, and the adults who want some quiet time can book the Adult Scene. Just ask us and we’ll help you figure out the best mix of rooms!
Barbara’s week-long stay
After our site inspection, Barbara loved Planet Hollywood Cancun so much that she went back for a full week with her husband! Her blog about their stay is coming soon, with all of her favourite spots and tips from a real vacation here.
