Planning Your Asia Trip

A few things we always check when clients travel to Asia.

  • Passports valid for at least six months past your return date (the safest rule of thumb)
  • Visa, e-visa or arrival card requirements, which are different for each country
  • The best season for each destination, including rainy and monsoon seasons
  • Flight times, connections and stopovers to help with jet lag
  • A visit to a travel health clinic well before you go
  • Dress codes for temples, like covering shoulders and knees
  • How to get between cities and countries, by air, rail or cruise
  • Travel insurance that protects your trip

Asia Travel FAQ

Quick answers to questions travellers often ask us about Asia.

Do Canadians need a visa to travel to Asia?

It depends on the country, and the rules can change. Some countries allow short visits without a visa, while others ask for an e-visa, a visa on arrival or an online arrival card. Your Travitude Travel Group travel consultant will let you know exactly what you need for each stop on your trip.

When is the best time to visit Southeast Asia?

It depends on where you’re going. In general, November to March is the dry, cooler season for much of mainland Southeast Asia, like Thailand and Cambodia, while Bali is driest from about April to October. Your travel consultant can help you time your trip around the weather and local festivals.

How long should we plan for a trip to Asia?

With long flights from Canada, most travellers plan at least 10 to 14 days so they have time to settle in and enjoy each stop. A stopover on the way can also help break up the journey.

Can we visit more than one country on the same trip?

Yes! Many of our clients combine two or three countries, like Thailand and Cambodia or Singapore and Bali. We can connect them with short flights, rail journeys or a cruise.

Do I need travel insurance for Asia?

We strongly recommend it. Medical care and evacuations far from home can be very expensive, and insurance also protects your trip if plans change. Learn more in our Understanding Travel Insurance blog, or ask your travel consultant for help.
