When is the best time to go on an African safari?
It depends on where you go and what you want to see. In much of East and Southern Africa, the dry season (roughly June to October) is a popular time for game viewing, because animals gather near water. The green season can mean fewer crowds, lush scenery and baby animals. Your travel consultant can match the timing to your destination.
Is an adventure trip right for me if I’m not super fit?
Absolutely. Adventure travel comes in every level, from gentle walks and game drives to challenging treks. Tour companies rate their trips by activity level, and we’ll be honest about what each one involves. That way you can choose something you’ll enjoy rather than just survive!
What should I pack for a safari?
Pack light, in neutral colours, with layers for cool mornings and warm afternoons. Many safaris include small-plane flights with strict weight limits and soft-sided bags only, so packing smart really matters. Your travel consultant will share the exact luggage rules for your trip.
Do I need vaccinations or special documents for an adventure trip?
Some destinations recommend or require certain vaccinations, anti-malaria medication or a visa, so talk to a travel health clinic well before you go. Canadians must travel with a valid passport, and we recommend it be valid for at least six months past your return date. Some destinations only require three months, but six months is the safest rule of thumb. Some countries also want blank passport pages, and your Travitude Travel Group travel consultant will let you know what your trip needs.
Do I need travel insurance for an adventure trip?
Yes, we strongly recommend it. Remote trips can mean expensive medical evacuations, and many tour operators require proof of emergency medical coverage. Check that your plan covers the activities you’ll be doing. Learn more in our Understanding Travel Insurance blog, or ask your travel consultant for help.
