African Safari
Elephants at the waterhole, lions on the plains and starry nights in the bush. A safari is a trip you’ll never forget, and our travel consultants have been there.
Plan Your Safari
Choosing where and when to go, which camps to stay in and how to get between them makes all the difference on safari. Here’s where we start.
Where to Go
- Kenya & Tanzania: the Masai Mara, the Serengeti and the Great Migration
- South Africa: Kruger and private game reserves, easy to combine with Cape Town and the Winelands
- Botswana: the Okavango Delta and exclusive, low-density camps
- Zambia: walking safaris in South Luangwa
- Rwanda & Uganda: gorilla trekking
Styles of Safari
- Luxury lodges: beautiful rooms, fine dining and private guides
- Tented camps: canvas walls, comfortable beds and the sounds of the bush all around you
- Small-group tours: great value, with an expert guide and new friends
- Walking safaris: experience the wild up close, on foot with an armed guide
When to Go
The dry season, roughly June through October in much of East and Southern Africa, is generally best for spotting wildlife, as animals gather near water.
The green season brings lush scenery, baby animals, fewer visitors and often better rates. The timing of the Great Migration varies through the year, and we’ll help you plan around it.
Before You Go
- Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months past your return date (the safest rule of thumb), and check visa requirements for each country
- Visit a travel health clinic about vaccinations and malaria prevention
- Pack in soft-sided bags, as small bush planes have strict luggage limits
- Bring neutral-coloured clothing and layers for cool early mornings
- Make sure your travel insurance includes emergency medical and evacuation coverage
