If you love Christmas (and theme parks!), the holiday season is a wonderful time to visit Universal Orlando Resort. The parks are dressed up with festive décor, the music is merry, and there are seasonal shows, characters and treats you can only experience this time of year. Here’s what to expect and how to plan a holiday trip your whole family will love.

My own holiday day at Universal Orlando

I spent six wonderful hours at Universal Orlando in December 2023 with my friend Jeanie, soaking up the holiday festivities, and I’d go back in a heartbeat! The weather was perfect and the decorations, lights and music were fantastic. The second you walk under that giant festive wreath at the Universal Studios Florida arch (with a huge star in a Santa hat greeting you!), you know you’re in for a treat.

Hello, Who-ville!

The one disappointment? The parade ended up being cancelled that day because of possible rain. It happens in Florida! So if the parade is a must for your family, don’t leave it to your last night. Give yourself a couple of chances to catch it.

Even without the parade, the parks were magical after dark. Here are a few of my favourite festive spots from the day:

The giant Christmas tree lit up at night at Universal Studios Florida
A street at Universal Studios Florida glowing with holiday lights at night
Twinkling holiday lights reflected in the water at Universal Orlando at night
Colourful Grinchmas holiday decorations and poinsettias in Seuss Landing

Til next year, Universal!

When are the Holidays at Universal Orlando in 2026?

Universal has announced that the Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort run from November 14, 2026 to January 3, 2027, starting a week earlier than last year. The main celebrations are included with regular theme park admission, so there’s no separate event ticket to buy. Show times and schedules can change, so always check the Universal Orlando app before you go.

Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s

At Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s brings giant balloons and festive floats through the streets of the park each night of the season. Look for favourites like the Gingerbread Man balloon and the Macy’s Elf Train float. The parade ends with Santa lighting the park’s Christmas tree, which is such a fun moment to share with the kids!

Little ones can also dance and cheer along with Earl the Squirrel next to a festive tree in Universal Studios Florida.

Amy’s tipPick your spot along the parade route early, and plan more than one parade night in case weather cancels it. It happened to me!

Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure

Over at Universal Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing turns into Who-ville for Grinchmas. Catch the live Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular show, meet The Grinch (dressed as Santa, of course!) and stroll through the Who-Ville Tree Lot. It’s one of the most colourful and kid-friendly parts of the whole celebration.

Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™

Harry Potter fans, this one’s for you! Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ spans all three theme parks this year: Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, and the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. Expect snowy, festive décor, seasonal treats and live performances, including the Frog Choir in Hogsmeade and Celestina Warbeck in Diagon Alley.

After dark, don’t miss The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle, a nightly projection show that lights up the castle in Hogsmeade with festive scenes and music.

Epic Universe at the holidays

Universal Epic Universe is getting even more festive in 2026. Holiday décor arrives in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk for the first time, Celestial Park takes on a wintery look with twinkling trees, and the Cosmos fountain features holiday-themed fountain displays during the day. Combined with Christmas at the Ministry of Magic, it’s a great reason to include Epic Universe in your holiday plans.

Holiday extras and festive hotels

Want to go a step further? The Universal Holiday Tour is a guided, add-on experience offered on select dates during the season. It includes meet-and-greets with The Grinch and Max and with Santa, reserved seating for the Grinchmas show, and an optional parade viewing area. It’s sold separately and reservations are required, so ask us to check availability early.

The festive spirit carries over to the resort hotels too, with holiday décor in spots like the lobby of Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort. At CityWalk, the Green and Red Coconut Club gets a limited-time festive makeover, no park ticket needed.

Tips for planning a holiday trip to Universal Orlando

  • Go early in the season if you can. Mid-November and early December are typically less crowded than the weeks around Christmas, US Thanksgiving and New Year’s, which are usually among the busiest days of the year.
  • Think about Express. Guests at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort get free Universal Express Unlimited at participating attractions in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Epic Universe Express is sold separately, and Express passes can sell out on busy days.
  • Use Early Park Admission. Staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel lets you enter select parks up to an hour early, which is a big help on busy holiday days.
  • Plan your evenings. The parade, the Hogwarts™ Castle projection show and the Grinchmas show all have set times, so check the app each day and plan your must-sees first.
  • Book early. Holiday dates are popular, so lock in your hotel, any Universal Holiday Tour and dining reservations as soon as your dates are set.
  • Note the Volcano Bay closure. Universal Volcano Bay is scheduled for a maintenance closure beginning October 26, 2026, with reopening planned on or before April 1, 2027.

Ready to plan a merry Universal Orlando getaway? We’d love to help you pick the best dates, find the right hotel and make sure you don’t miss a single holiday highlight!
