Quick takeaways

  • Sirenis Punta Cana is a fantastic family resort, and it works just as well for couples and friends travelling without kids.
  • The resort has two sections: Cocotal, with standard rooms for up to 4, and the Punta Cana side, with family rooms for up to 5 and a bedroom door that closes.
  • The Aquagames waterpark is included for everyone, with big slides, a little kids’ area, a pool and an all-day lunch buffet.
  • There are 7 speciality restaurants included, and you can reserve them for your whole week at once.

I was able to do a site inspection of Sirenis Punta Cana (officially Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort & Aquagames), and I’m so excited to share what I saw! This all-inclusive sits right on the beach in the Uvero Alto area of the Dominican Republic, about 40 km north of Punta Cana International Airport. It’s a fantastic family property, and of course it’s a great fit for those travelling without kids too.

First impressions

The resort is quite large, with a very tropical vibe. It’s lively, there’s plenty of space, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves! The grounds are lush and green, with winding pathways, tall palm trees and low-rise buildings tucked into the gardens.

I also noticed the staff constantly painting, cleaning and looking after the landscaping, and everyone I met was incredibly kind, helpful and happy.

Cocotal vs. the Punta Cana side

Sirenis is split into two different sections, and knowing the difference makes it much easier to pick the right room for your family.

  • Cocotal side: This is where you’ll find the standard rooms, which hold up to 4 people. Rooms have either 2 double beds or 1 king bed plus a sofa bed. The buildings are 3 floors high. Ground floor rooms have a shower and tub combo, while the higher floors have a shower only.
  • Punta Cana side: These buildings are only 2 floors high (again, the second floor has a shower only), but the rooms have space for families of 5! The main bedroom area has either 1 king or 2 double beds, with a door that closes, plus a separate area with a sleeper sofa for the kids.

Amy’s tipTravelling with little ones who need a bath? Ask for a ground floor room so you get the tub. And for a family of 5, the Punta Cana side is the way to go. That bedroom door makes a big difference at nap time and bedtime!

The rooms

The rooms are bright and fresh, with tropical leaf feature walls, green accents, ceiling fans and modern bathrooms.

In the family rooms, the main bedroom closes off from the separate sitting area with the sofa bed, so parents and kids each get their own space.

A closer look at the family suites

I’ve sent lots of families to Sirenis over the years! A group of my clients (4 families!) shared these photos of their family suites with me, and they show the layout really well: a comfy bed against the tropical feature wall, a separate living area, and plenty of storage.

One of the families who stayed at Sirenis

They all came home with nothing but fabulous things to say about the gorgeous beach, the renovated rooms, the super-fun waterpark and play area for the kids, and they all raved about the food!

Pool, beach and food

A very large pool sits right in the middle of the resort, very close to the beach. It has a zero-entry, walk-in side (great for little ones) and, of course, a swim-up bar!

There are lots of food choices just in this area: the main buffet, a lunch buffet by the pool, a snack bar on the beach, and a chef’s special cooked right on the beach. And that’s just near the pool and beach!

The Aquagames waterpark

This is a big one for families: Sirenis has its own waterpark, and it’s included for everyone to use! It’s not in the main pool and beach area. It’s on the far side of the resort, so it’s a bit of a walk, but it’s a nice walk, and there’s also a shuttle that runs from the lobby to the waterpark to make it easier.

Inside you’ll find large slides for the big kids (and big kids at heart!), a smaller area for younger children, and a pool. There’s also a store, a bar and a buffet serving lunch all day. It’s so nice not to have to leave to eat, and of course that’s included too.

Amy’s tipHop on the lobby shuttle on the way to the waterpark, then plan to stay for lunch there. You can easily spend the whole day!

Speciality dining

There are 7 speciality restaurants included for dinner, including French, Teppanyaki and Mediterranean. Reservations are required, but the good news is you can make them for the whole week at once rather than having to book every day.

More around the resort

On the way to the waterpark you’ll find even more to explore:

  • An open-air theatre (separate from the main theatre)
  • A coffee shop
  • A sports bar that’s always hopping
  • A children’s play centre
  • The excursion desk and pickup point
  • And of course, lots of photo ops!

There are also lots of seating areas in the lobby and the main area of the resort, so it’s easy to find a comfy spot to relax.
